Young Empires are a Canadian 4-piece that has garnered international critical acclaim since their inception in October 2009. NME Magazine compared Young Empires’ sound to the likes of The Killers, Arcade Fire, Yeasayer and Foals. Defined by swirling synthesizer tones, fervent bass rhythms, and soulful guitar licks, Young Empires deliver fresh, yet distinguished dance tracks full of swagger, sexuality, and occasionally a little angst.
Along with music blogs, Young Empires have also been well-received in the fashion world including a feature in Dazed & Confused Magazine. Their song “Glory of the Night” was released on Parisian fashion/music label KitsuneMaison10. Another track “Against the Wall” has been featured on a viral fashion video for Nylon TV.
In May of this year, Young Empires broke new ground by releasing the world's first Facebook Connect interactive music video for “White Doves”, that earned a feature on Fast Company. The song itself was used by CTV as background music to “Relive some of the best sights and sounds from the London 2012 Olympics”, as well as being voted #6 on Sirius XM’s Top 50 of 2011. “Rain of Gold”, also from their debut EP, has been included in the FIFA 13 soundtrack.
Young Empires’ still young career highlights include international performances in London, Paris, Stockholm, New York City, Chicago, Miami, Bogota, Toronto and Montreal. Touring most recently withDragonette, they have also supported acts such as Lights, Jamiroquai, Chromeo, Girl Talk, Sleigh Bells, Japandroids, Jamaica and Tanlines.
Their live performance at the NXNE Festival was named in the top 10 out of over 500 bands and, having been recognized for their production skills, they were commissioned to remix major label singles for Geffen and Kitsune Records.
As shown with their recent nominations in 3 categories of the 2012 CASBY Awards, presented by The Edge 102.1, the Young Empires are continuing to reach new levels of success with their exciting live shows and catchy music.
